Living in Buffalo, we’re bound to get some cold weather and snow! You can make the most of the not-so-fun weather by finding activities that embrace and celebrate winter. We’ve got a list of places to go sledding, ice skating and tons of other winter fun ideas but between January and February each year, many towns and businesses hold Winter Festivals.
Most Winter Festivals in Buffalo are free to attend and many are geared towards families with kids! Here’s a list of upcoming winter festivals in Buffalo. If I missed one, please contact me and I’ll add it to the list.
Town of Tonawanda Winter Fest – January 16-19, 2020
Town of Tonawanda Youth, Parks & Recreation will hold its annual Winterfest celebration starting on Thursday, January 16, 2020 and continuing through Monday, January 20, 2020. This event features free and affordable fun for all ages! There are a ton of activities for the kids along with special appearances from characters, and much more. Winterfest 2020 in Orchard Park – January 19, 2020
This is an annual event that is free and open to the public. The event will be held at Chestnut Ridge Park on Sunday, January 19, 2020, from 11 am until 4 pm. Activities include magic shows (11:30 am & 2:30 pm), Glen Colton live music (1-2 pm) arts & crafts, chain saw carving demonstrations, monster mural, wood cutting/branding, marshmallow roasting and hay rides ($5 adults/$3 children). There will also be sledding and snow sculpting contests, weather permitting.
Concessions will be available to purchase from Grateful Grind at Chestnut Ridge.
Winter Blast 2020 at MLK Jr. Park – January 20, 2020
This is a free event that will include:

Larkenville Ice Festival – January 25, 2020
This event will include a local vendor market, activities for kids, alpacas, ice sculpture, snowga (snow yoga!), sleigh rides down Seneca St. More will be announced so keep an eye on their Facebook event page for additional details.
Winter Fest 2020 in Amherst – January 25, 2020
This is a free event that will feature horse drawn wagon rides, outdoor games, indoor inflatable and gym activities, crafts, face painting and more! Toy Story 4 movie will be shown at 2:30pm in the Auditorium to round out the event festivities!
Lancaster Chillville Winter Festival – February 1, 2020
Roam the Village of Lancaster and enjoy:
– 1pm-3pm Elsa, Ana and Captain America will be joining us in the festivities. Visit them for photos & fun!
– Free Hot Chocolate Stand
– Live Music with local bands
– Free Dance classes from The 716 Dance Lab. 11am, 2pm and 5pm
