Whether your child is stuck in the house because they’re sick, there’s a snow storm or you find yourself in the middle of a global pandemic like we are now (thanks Coronavirus March 2020), there are a lot of online resources available that provide virtual fun and distance learning opportunities to keep the kids occupied.

Yes, these options still require screen time, but most have educational aspects to them so it might be a good trade off.

If you’re stuck in the house for whatever reason, here’s a list of virtual fun and distance learning resources for you to tap in to.

Options Specifically During the Coronavirus Outbreak

The Cincinnati Zoo is doing a Home Safari via Facebook live.  Check their Facebook page for details.

Here’s a list from another blog of sites offering free memberships during the outbreak. that has an overwhelming amount of options.  So much so that I didn’t want to add them all to the list so if you find one you really love, please let me know and I’ll add that one specifically.

Here are a few resources from one of our community members, Liza Bair.  Liza is also a teacher and put together this amazing list of resources for us to share.  Thanks Liza!

ABC Mouse is offering a free two month subscription via Groupon.

Daily Burn, perfect for staying active when gyms are closed, is also offering a 60 day membership for free on Groupon.

Take a Virtual Field Trip

If you need a break from learning or just want to break the day up, take a virtual field trip.  The internet has created the opportunity for us to not only learn from home, but also travel!  Here is a list of places around the globe that offer online access to their operation, no passport required!

Over 30 Virtual Field Trips with Links by Mrs. Fahrney –  This is a list of over 30 places like the San Diego Zoo, Yellowstone National Park, a farm and more that you can take a virtual trip to.

***These next two resources were discovered while our friend Corrine was working on earning her “Arts and Culture Fun Patch” with her Girl Scout Troop! THANK YOU CORRINE for your outstanding contributions! Check them out!***

Geography Games and Virtual Travel through the USA –  At this link, you will find tours to historic landmarks, museums and even zoos that are home to each state in the US!

Interactive Historical Virtual Reality Field Trips –  Here you will find tours to places like The Great Wall of China, Mount Rushmore and even the TITANIC! These virtual tours are worldwide (and for what it’s worth, our Managing Editor, Emmalee, thinks these are SUPER cool.)
