    More About Shavout

Originally an ancient harvest festival celebrating the grain crop, Shavuot means “weeks” in Hebrew. It is the holiday celebrated exactly seven weeks after the Jewish holiday of Passover begins. Shavuot is also recognized as the anniversary of the giving of the Torah on Mt. Sinai and most Shavuot celebrations are centered on Torah study and other Jewish learning. There is a custom of eating dairy foods–especially cheesecakes and blintzes–on Shavuot. To learn more about the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, click here.

    About the Host

PJ Library & PJ Our Way are unique programs that seek to encourage Jewish families with young children to explore Judaism through literature as well as by going beyond the books.  In order to accomplish that goal, each month PJ Library & PJ Our Way send an age appropriate Jewish content book or CD to enrolled children between the ages of six months to eleven years. Furthermore, the local PJ Library & PJ Our Way team, powered by the Buffalo Jewish Federation, organizes and runs events such as this for families to meet, network and socialize with each other to build a caring and vibrant Jewish community in Buffalo.
