Aquarium of Niagara

RECYCLED POST from November 2009

I just wanted to pull this up from the archives today. We went to the Aquarium Saturday, February 5th. As I mentioned previously, it is such good price if you are already a Zoo member. It has been at least 2 years since we were their last. I was a little disappointed on this trip. I had forgotten the terrible smell that greets you upon entering the Aquarium. I think from the penguin exhibit right inside the door? That particular exhibit was actually closed - they were working on someting with the glass. Hopefully, whatever they are fixing will help with the odor. In general, I felt the Aquarium seemed a little more run down than when we were their last. But there were a few new and fun exhibits and the sea lion training sessions are always a big hit with the kids. My 4 year old and 2 year old absolutely loved everything about the Aquarium! In the end, that's all that matters, right?

A visit to the Aquarium of Niagara is a fun activity if you live in the Buffalo area. We have been a handful of times and the kids absolutely loved every trip!

The Aquarium has some very nice exhibits and I love that it isn't so huge that you feel you have to spend several hours to see everything. The Sea Lion Sessions are a lot of fun so make sure to catch that during your visit.

Kids 2 and under are FREE, 4-12 are $6 and adults are $10.00. If you (and/or your family) are a member of the Buffalo Zoo, admission at the Aquarium is half price. Or if you know you will be visiting the Auqarium of Niagara several times during the year you can purchase an annual membership.

FYI, if you want to pack a lunch there is a room upstairs that is set up with tables and chairs. (We've brought our lunch a couple of times.)

Need more information? Check the Aquarium of Niagara website.

ETA on April 10, 2012: Stroller friendly access is all the way at the back of the building. After walking all the way to the back, press the button and wait for someone to come let you in. Otherwise, you'll be hauling your stroller up a bunch of stairs to get into the building. It would be fabulous if someday the Aquarium could make the entrance a little more stroller friendly!

  1. We've spent HOURS standing in front of the "Nemo" exhibit ... totally worth the price of admission for 2 adults and a 2-year-old (we are zoo members). This was our special Birthday outing for my little guy this year. He LOVED it.

The aquarium is a little run down and in a less than appealing neighborhood but it's a great 1/2-day outing for young children.

  2. I agree - it is great for the younger kids!

  3. We were also there this past Saturday for story time! My son is obsessed with aquatic creatures, so it's worth the admission for us (I'm also a zoo member).

  4. We didn't stay for the story time. How was it? What ages do you think would be interested in this?

  5. Story time was really fun. I have an almost five year old and he was giggling and singing along with the storyteller. I'd say kids 3 and up...maybe to 8 or 9.
