If you're looking for a simple, free and fun activity, check out Badding Brothers in East Amherst, NY. Badding Brothers is a very nice, very large farm stand. In mid-September they set up Scarecrow Village! Your kids will have a great time checking out the "scary" things they have set up - complete with sound effects! And if your little one is not into "scary" there are 2 big tires filled with corn and all kinds of toys to play with, a sandbox, rabbits, turkeys and goats. During our visit, Big B was perfectly happy to play in the corn "box" with all the trucks.
The farm stand is open during regular business hours, but scarecrow village does not open until noon. It closes when the farm stand closes, around 4:30 or 5 pm.

Scarecrow Village runs from mid to late September until October 31.
I'm not going to label this activity as a "must-do", but if you live nearby or just need to get out of the house with the little ones it's a lot of fun.
